WEEK 7
Well, this week
I was busy with preparing my project report, I mean a rough draft. What we did
during previous weeks was very helpful (the description of a class, the
setting, the problem, possible solutions to the problem using technology or
some technique). So, I made the beginning of my rough draft rather quickly. I’d
like to say that taking part in this project we learn to teach our students to
make projects step by step.
I found a partner
for the project task. It’s better to say that the partner found me. Anyway I
and Bojana are partners and I’m really glad to have such a partner.
What concerns
the assignments of this week, I described how I use one computer in the classsroom: mainly for watching videos, listening to songs, watching presentations, creating Word processor-documents, drilling exercises and tests. Reading the article "How to thrive in a one-computer classroom" I liked the idea
of posting a schedule and establishing color-coded groups so that students could
work with the computer in turn. I'm planning to try this in the nearest
future.
I made a one-computer lesson plan where I used my interactive presentation from Week 6. I think I feel better now with making ABCD objectives.
I also read articles on learner autonomy and I
agree that the autonomous learner takes an active role in the learning process,
he is ready to generate some ideas, he becomes an active agent in his own
learning process. I mentioned the ways I try to increase learners autonomy: we discuss news and current events, our weekends, express our opinions on some problems, make individual projects and so on.
In conclusion I'd like to say that this week I learned a lot of useful information which is very helpful for the final project task and for my lessons in general.

Hi Olga,
ReplyDeleteWell someone has been rather organized about her rough draft!!! I wish it was me, but I have not even started it at all! It makes me feel better the fact you mention it was rather quick since most of it is what we've done so far.
I agree with you, this course has made me learn better tips on how to help my students do their projects bit by bit, rather than giving them the whole lot to do at once!
Good luck on your project!
Jess
Hi Olga,
ReplyDeleteI think most of us have been busy trying to get things done especially our project draft. Like Jessica, I too haven't started and also feel relief to know from you that it is rather easy as most of it we have done in our previous weeks. However, I think I better start with it as soon as I finished here..
I'm just wondering if it is a very common thing to have only 1 computer in your classroom? As it is for me in my country. It is only recently that schools would have a computer lab but unfortunately, my school, being a government aided school, we still do not have a computer lab. So until now, we are actually still using the method of 1 computer.
I shared your point of view that many of us have become better and more confident when it comes to writing ABCD objectives for our lessons. I really feel that I could achieve more due to the sharing and knowledge which I have gained from many of my classmates, including you.
I too agree with you that when we allow our students to discuss and share their opinion and views, they become more independent and mature. They would eventually take charge of their own learning. However, in my country, many of us teachers may not even know about learners autonomy. This is of our system which is too exam-oriented that teachers would spend most of their lesson trying to finish the syllabus and prepare students for the exams. So students do not have much say in what to learn and how it is learn.
Like you I feel that we have learn many useful and interesting information this week and I look forward to learn more. I wish you all the best in the final project too.

Olga (and Jessica),
ReplyDeleteI like what both of you said about learning how to give your students step by step guidelines or directions. It's amazing to me how I think I'm being perfectly clear when I give directions, only to find that nobody understands what I want! It's hard to break things down into manageable bits for students to work through.
